Paris Hilton‘s reps have clarified what the socialite was trying to say when she made the comment that all gay people probably have aids, adding that she’d be scared to be a homosexual because she’d probably die of the disease. The story went viral and has put Paris in a position she’d rather want to avoid – but it seems that her representatives are now trying to soothe the situation by explaining what Hilton was trying to say when she made the homophobic rant in the cab.
According to her team, she was in the cab with her friend, who is also gay, when he showed her a gay dating website named Grindr – known to be one of the biggest social/dating websites for the gay community. Paris bursted out saying: ”Ewwww. Most of them probably have AIDS… I would be so scared if I was a gay guy… you’ll like die of AIDS.”
The statement that Paris’ representative presented to the media said the following: “Paris Hilton’s comments were to express that it is dangerous for anyone to have unprotected sex that could lead to a life-threatening disease. The conversation became heated after a close gay friend told her, in a cab ride, a story about a gay man who has AIDS and is knowingly having unprotected sex.
“He also discussed a website that encourages random sex by gay men with strangers. As she was being shown the website her comments were in reference to those people promoting themselves on the site. The cab driver who recorded this, only provided a portion of the conversation. It was not her intent to make any derogatory comments about all gays.”
The statement ended with the rep adding that the former reality-TV star is a big supporter of the gay community – seeing that she has many gay friends who she is surrounded by every day. “Paris Hilton is a huge supporter of the gay community and would never purposefully make any negative statements about anyone’s sexual orientation.”
What do you make of Paris’ comments?! Good, bad, hurtful, stupid? And, let us know if you think this will hurt her career.
