Founder of Dear Abby Advice Column, Pauline Phillips Dead At 94

Who does not know who Dear Abby is?  I think everyone who reads at one time or another has read Dear Abby’s advice column.  Sad news today, the founder of the advice column Pauline Phillips passed away yesterday at the age of 94.  A rep for Phillips told TMZ “Pauline had been battling Alzheimer’s disease.”

Pauline’s daughter released the following statement, “I have lost my mother, my mentor and my best friend. My mother leaves very big high heels to fill with a legacy of compassion, commitment and positive social change. I will honor her memory every day by continuing this legacy.”

The advice column was started in 1956 and Pauline used the pen name Abigail Van Buren.  The column is carried on today by her daughter, Jeanne Phillips, who now owns the legal rights to the pen name.
