Ashton Kutcher starved himself to channel the late Steve Jobs in his early days. Now, we like to consider ourselves tech-freaks over here at HollywoodHiccups and when we look at old pictures of Jobs, he wasn’t exactly “skinny” – a little chubby, we’d say. Still, it seemed like producers felt the Two and a Half Men actor was still too fat to play the role of the man who changed technology forever.
The 34-year old was so dedicated to the role that he wouldn’t eat anything other than fruit every single day, which ended him up in hospital days before shooting began. Anyone with common sense would know that starving your body is not the best thing to do; Ashton says he started to feel terrible pain in his stomach – probably because he was craving for solid food – but knew that if he wanted to make his role as Jobs believable, he would have to go through with it.
Kutcher told USA Today at the Sundance Film Festival about his fruit diet that had him spent several days in hospital for emergency treatment: “First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to like severe issues. I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was doubled over in pain. My pancreas levels were like completely out of whack. It was really terrifying… considering everything.”
The actor continued on how he thinks he relates to Steve, saying: “We both have a ravenous interest in the tech space. He’s a guy that failed and got back on the horse. I think we can all sort of relate to that in some place in our life where we are moving forward with something and we fall down. You have to have the guts to get back up and go again. I think I share that as well.”
