Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher lost his mother, Lavoyda today in Texas. He of course left the team immediately to help family plan her funeral and mourn her loss. It is still unclear as to whether or not her will be back to play in the game on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
In a statement Urlacher said,
“My first priority right now is to be with my family as we mourn her loss and make the arrangements to lay her to rest. This is a very difficult and emotional time for us and I sincerely ask that you respect our privacy.”
Coach Lovie Smith supports Urlacher staying away as long as he needs to,
“Unless you’ve been through it, there’s no way to make it any better than it is at the time, but he’ll get through it,” Smith said.
Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler is behind him as well,
“You can’t replace a guy like that. You can’t find a guy like that in the league. He’s the heart and soul of this organization. We all know he’s going through a tough time right now, but we’re going to respect his privacy and when he gets back we’ll be here for him.”
It is still unclear what Lavoyda’s cause of death was, we will keep you updated.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Urlacher family.
