American Idol Can't Afford Mariah Carey as a Judge

We already know that it’s going to be an interesting season on American Idol since both Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have opted to leave their judging duties.  Various names are swirling as possible replacements and Mariah Carey has been tossed around quite a bit.  Photographers caught up with her husband, Nick Cannon, on Sunday and asked him  about the possibility of his wife stepping in.

“I don’t know if they can afford Mariah Carey. That’s a lot of money. If they gave JLo $20 million, they might have to double that!”

I’m sure Mariah would demand a hefty increase over whatever Lopez was paid.  When Britney Spears was negotiating with The X Factor she took into account what Idol was paying Lopez, then demanded slightly more.  Judging positions come with an extremely lucrative price tag and I’m sure Mariah would demand to make more than Britney now does

Do you think that Mariah would be a good fit for American Idol?  Would she want to take the time away from her twins and her music to judge a weekly contest?  Do you think she will do it if the money is right?

Also rumored to be in the mix for a spot are Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Gwen Stefani and Brett Michaels.  While I can’t see Miley coming across as credible, I do think Brett Michaels would do very well in the seat vacated by Steven Tyler.
