It was pretty bizarre what happened last year May to Cheryl Cole. After leaving X Factor UK behind to pursue a career in America – which was highly influenced by Simon Cowell – the mogul offered her the role to judge contestants on the US version for its first season. The plan was to let the public know who Cheryl was, before starting her music projects stateside, however, everything came to a disastrous end when she suddenly received the news she would not be welcomed back to the panel.
Producers and Simon had felt that Cole seemed uncomfortable as she gave her opinion on the contestants’ singing abilities. She failed to not only interact with the contestants, but also with the judges — creating an awkward atmosphere. But nevertheless, the man who had told her to move to America and take on the role (Simon) didn’t even give her a heads up, letting her know what the situation was and that she would be receiving a call soon that she wouldn’t be asked to come back.
Cheryl revealed in an upcoming autobiography: “He didn’t even have the guts to phone or send a message warning me what was coming,” she said. “I was furious with Simon for letting it happen like this. I believed we had a good friendship and I couldn’t understand why he just hadn’t been straight with me.”
Cole could even remember the text she sent to him after being invited to a meeting to hear the devastating news. She recalled the day she wrote Simon the SMS: “I hate you. I understand you’re a businessman and what I’ve learned from this is that business means more to you than our friendship.”
The two have since patched things up, but Cole has said she will stay away from anything that’s related to Simon (when it comes to doing performances on talent shows).
