Miss New York Nina Davuluri Wins Miss America, Responds To Racist Backlash

Miss New York Nina Davuluri made history when she became the first Indian-American woman to win Miss America. Unfortunately, this country has a lot of racist idiots that feel like they need to share their horribly ignorant thoughts on Twitter.

Nina released a statement after winning stating, “I’m so happy this organization has embraced diversity. I’m thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America.”

Some of the worst backlash was catalogued by CNN and Buzzfeed, and here’s a sample of the moronic statements that permeated a small corner of the Internet:

“If you’re #Miss America you should have to be American.”

“And the Arab wins Miss America. Classic.”

“The liberal Miss America judges won’t say this – but Miss Kansas lost because she actually represented American values. #missamerica.” – Todd Starnes, host of Fox News.

“Miss America? You mean Miss 7-11.”

There are comments that are way worse, but Fox’s comment is possibly the most misleading. Um, Miss Kansas lost because she didn’t answer her questions properly, not because she was a gun-toting and tattooed model – and also, that doesn’t represent American ‘values’. Maybe Fox News’ values, but not American values.

What do you guys think about the racist and idiotic comments, and are you happy Nina won? Let us know in the comments.
