Marcia Wallace Dead: Simpsons And Bob Newhart Show Actress Died at 70 Years Old
Marcia Wallace, best known for playing Bart’s teacher on the Simpsons show and the secretary in the Bob Newhart show, has passed away at the age of 70.
According to Marcia’s friends and family, Marcia was breast cancer free at the time of her death, and she died due to complications from other illnesses. The executive producer of the Simpsons, Al Jean, released a statement on behalf of the cast and crew of the Simpsons, saying, “I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace. She was beloved by all at ‘The Simpsons’ and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character. Earlier we had discussed a potential storyline in which a character passed away. This was not Marcia’s Edna Krabappel. Marcia’s passing is unrelated and again, a terrible loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing her.”
Marcia’s performance on the Simpsons was so beloved and so acclaimed that she ended up winning an Emmy Award for it after portraying the character since the show’s inception in 1990. Since then, she’s also appeared on all the seasons of the Bob Newhart show, and has also made many guest appearances on popular game shows such as Family Feud, Match Game, $25,000 Pyramid, and Hollywood Squares.
Marcia also advocated increased awareness of breast cancer in recent years, even writing a book titled Don’t Look Back, We’re Not Going That Way that in part dealt with her battles with the disease.
