Alec Baldwin’s Late Night Show Suspended By MSNBC Due To Abusive Behavior
It was actually earlier today that I was wondering why Alec Baldwin hasn’t faced more serious consequences for being a homophobic asshole. And then, voila, the consequences arrive.
For those of you who have not heard about Alec’s latest rant, TMZ caught him on camera yelling the n-word to African American photographers, although he later tried to deny it. Nobody bought his excuses, and now MSNBC has suspended his late night talk show for the time being.Up Late With Alec Baldwin is only a month old, but clearly it’s not getting off the best start. Although some people say that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, I’d say this definitely counts as bad publicity.
Hours and hours after the controversy, and I guarantee only because he got flack for it, Alec has released a statement apologizing for his words. He stated, “I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have — and for that I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand Up Late will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week.”
It’s like teaching a child. MSNBC is the parent, and Alec is their toddler child – and they’re using negative reinforcement to teach him not to say horrible things. Really, Alec’s a grown ass man, and you’d think he’d know better, especially since this isn’t his first time uttering homophobic slurs on camera. Hopefully he’s learnt his lesson, and we won’t be hearing any more from him. Somehow, I doubt it.
