Robin Thicke recently cancelled two concerts, claiming it was due to an illness. This seemed odd after he was spotted alone with his son, Julian, at Disneyland on Saturday, looking pretty healthy. Physically, anyway. His heart, however, may be dealing with a bad break.
After 9 years of marriage, Paula Patton and Robin Thicke, 36, have decided to separate. In a joint statement to People Magazine, the couple confirmed the split stating, “We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”
Thicke has been in the music industry for year, but only recently made a name for himself after collaborating with Pharrell on the hit song Blurred Lines. He was also an instant media target after performing with Miley Cyrus at the VMA’s last year. Paula, 38, was constantly hearing rumors and seeing things she didn’t like. Pictures circulated after the VMA’s showing Thicke’s hand on a woman’s backside, leading up her short skirt. Though she continued to put on a brave face, it hurt and embarrassed her. Her friends urged her to dump him.
While Paula has been thinking of leaving Robin for a while, she stayed because of their young child and because of the long history the two have together. They began dating in their early teens and have basically grown up together. Paula must have finally gotten to a point where she couldn’t tolerate the treatment from Robin any longer. She felt degraded and knows she is worth more than that. Given their long history together, there likely is a possibility of a friendship at some point. Only time will tell.
