Ellen Degeneres and Portia De Rossi have been at the center of the rumor mill for a few months, although they keep denying that there’s any trouble in paradise. However, we’d like to call their rebuttals the ‘doth protest too much’. Usually, celebrities stay quiet when the tabloids are wrong – after all, the tabloids are usually wrong.
However, in this particular scenario, Ellen and Portia just ended up fueling the fire by publicly denying the rumors. In fact, Ellen even used People Magazine as a sounding board to explain just why her marriage was so perfect. Why go to all that trouble when a simply ‘no, we’re still together’ would have done? Or better yet, couldn’t Ellen have continued joking about it on her show, making it a humorous insert into her routine instead of drawing attention to it with a several pages-long interview in People?
Everybody knows that People is a place where celebrities go to fix their image or go correct a glaring rumor, but they usually don’t do it unless they feel like they have to. Why did Ellen feel like she needed to correct the stories? Maybe there was some truth to them, after all? And perhaps she was trying to cover it up?
Regardless, both sources and the happy couple themselves have stated that they’re still together. However, some sources have also added that while they are together, they’re still fighting constantly. Apparently, the biggest reason they’re not breaking up right now is to prevent the tabloids from saying ‘I told you so’, but they’re just waiting for the right time to go public with the separation.
