It’s been more than one year since Cory Monteith tragically passed away from a drug overdose, leaving behind a devastated girlfriend and heartbroken family members. Cory’s mother, Ann McGregor, had stayed away from the press in the wake of Cory’s death, even though Cory’s father was giving interview after interview at the same time.

However, Ann is finally opening up about the aftermath of Cory’s passing away. She gave her first interview to Good Morning America, and she explained that she’s still having a hard time coping with his death.

She told GMA, “The loss is horrendous. Until three days ago I couldn’t look at a picture of Cory. So there’s been progress.”

Ann also opens up about Lea Michele‘s recovery from Cory’s death, explaining that they are both hurting together. She said, “She texts me and emails me. She is hurting too. You see the sadness. I know her pain.”

Ann also indirectly blames Cory’s father for his overdose, explaining that the first time he overdosed, it was on a ‘code blue’. She also adds that Cory was desperately seeking a relationship with his father, and because he felt ‘invalidated’, he turned to drugs. She adds that the first overdose was the ‘turning point‘, and things just got worse from there.

Unfortunately, she’s right. An overdose can either make a person turn their back on drugs completely and give them a new lease on life, or it can sign their death warrant. For Cory, it was the latter, no matter how hard he tried to stay clean and sober.
