The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is in its home stretch, with just weeks to go before the big box office opening. Since Guardians of the Galaxy is the only movie from 2014 that can legitimately be called a blockbuster, the 2014 box office title is pretty much guaranteed to go to Mockingjay. I have a feeling that Lionsgate is toning down its usual marketing tactics for that very reason, since we only now received a final trailer for the film.To be honest, the trailer doesn’t do much more than show us scenes that we’ve already seen, with one notable exception. Fans of the books will recognize Katniss Everdeen’s [Jennifer Lawrence] iconic line, ‘I have a message for President Snow. If we burn, you burn with us’. Lawrence’s delivery in this scene is good enough to bring goose bumps, and it’s definitely the emotional high point of the trailer. However, apart from that and a quick glimpse at the devastation wreaked in District 8, the rest of the trailer plays out like a gritty war movie. There’s no glossiness that we saw from Catching Fire, and [thankfully] none of the indie shaky camera-ness we saw from The Hunger Games. It seems like the filmmakers are really committed to making each movie tonally different from each other, and I’m incredibly curious to see what the tone of Mockingjay Part 2 will be.
Anyway, why don’t you guys take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think in the comments below. Are you excited for the movie? Apathetic? Or have you already booked your tickets, which went on sale earlier this week?
