Neil Patrick Harris’ Kids: Young Foodies and Chefs

Neil & David Vacation In Saint-Tropez With David Furnish

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka’s twins seem to be ready to live a life of luxury. In a recent interview with The New Potato, Burtka reveals that the twins, Harper and Gideon, have a much more advance pallet than other four-year-olds.

He said, “My kids are crazy eaters. They have incredible palates. Gideon eats everything you put in front of him. His passion for cooking and eating good food is in his soul. His favorite foods are claims, sushi, octopus, grilled pork, steak, parmesan cheese, ginger, mint, cinnamon, and coconut. Harper likes very strong and briny flavors. Some of her favorites are oysters, sardines, prosciutto, capers, duck live, miso, and anything chocolate.

Wow we don’t know what to say to that! When we were four-years-old we didn’t even know what half of those things were. An octopus was an animal that lived in the ocean that we read about. It certainly wasn’t food.

Burtka goes on to say that while the kids enjoy great food, they do not mind cooking it themselves either.

I cook for them a ton! I make ceviche and grilled fish a lot. We eat clams and mussels at least once a week, and I make a lot of sous vide proteins like pork chops, chicken, and fish to take out of the freezer in the morning and sear. I always have poached shrimp and blanched vegetables on hand. We also make tacos and quesadillas as a go-to.

It sounds like the kids definitely get their palate from their foodie dad. He goes on to tell The New Potato some of his favorite foods.

If I could eat like a crazy person all day this is how it would go: Breakfast would be two poached duck eggs on grilled artisan country bread drizzled with olive oil and sea salt. Then to finish it off, shaved white truffle on top.” His dinner of choice? He says he would have to go with a fresh rib eye with a dry porcini rub, medium rare.

Sounds like a great dinner to us! How can we make reservations at the Burtka/Harris household? Let us know what your favorite food was when you were four-years-old in the comment section below…
