Perrie Edwards wants everyone to know that she didn’t break up One Direction! In March 2015 the sound of millions of teenaged girls sobbing could be heard around the world when Zayn Malik announced that he had quit One Direction. Eventually the diehard fans’ sobbing turned to anger, and Zayn Malik’s girlfriend Perrie Edwards quickly became the scapegoat.
One Direction fans were certain that Perrie Edwards had convinced Zayn Malik to quit the band. Rumor had it Perrie wanted her boyfriend to be a superstar, and not be living in One Direction’s shadow – so she convinced him to ditch his bandmates and head out on a solo tour. Seriously, the poor girl probably needed her own security detail when she stepped out of her house – because she was enemy number one.
Perrie recently sat down with OK! Magazine to set the record straight on Zayn Malik’s departure from One Direction. Zayn’s girlfriend made it very clear that Zayn made the decision to quit the band all on his own, and she had no part in it. Perrie explained to OK! Magazine, “Zayn is his own person and makes his own decisions. Whatever he wanted to do during that time, I was going to support him 100 percent. So whatever people think, whether they know the truth or don’t, it’s his decision. He’s made it, the boys have supported him, I’ve supported him and his fans have been incredible, it’s just the way it is. If he is happy, then I am happy.”
