Alaskan Bush People Is Returning For Season 9: What To Look Forward To

“Alaskan Bush People” Season 8 ended last week, but fans should be delighted to know that the Discovery Channel docu series is returning for another season.

Radar Online reports that the show has been renewed, and Season 9 will cover Matt’s rehab from substance abuse. The 36-year-old eldest son of Billy and Ami Brown struggled with alcohol over the past year, which is a relapse. He first sought treatment for alcoholism in 2016.

The show will also continue to follow Ami’s recovery from cancer. She was diagnosed with Stage 3b lung cancer last year, which quickly escalated to Stage 4 with less than 3 percent chance of survival. But after undergoing radiation treatment and chemotherapy for months, her tumors disappeared. She is now in remission and needs to check with the doctors at UCLA every three months to monitor her health.

Given what his mother went through last year and the prospect of losing her, Matt started drinking again to cope with their situation. In a previous interview with People, Ami shared that her eldest son has been strong for her, and now she just wants to be strong for him.

Matt’s siblings, Bam Bam and Rain, also recently gave an update, saying that Matt is still in rehab and is getting all the help that he needs. Matt hopes to return soon and get his life back on track.

Reports say that the show is already filming, and the crew was recently spotted at the hospital.

High TV ratings

The renewal of “Alaskan Bush People” for another season does not come much as a surprise given how audience is still hooked to the Brown family’s way of living. The show’s premiere episode gave it the highest rating on a Sunday night’s premiere cable lineup. It’s season finale on September 30 attracted over 2.2 million viewers aged 18 to 49, according to TV By The Numbers by

During the third quarter, “Alaskan Bush People” was the most-watched unscripted cable series, with an average of 2.94 million P2+, per The Futon Critic.
