The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Twins Resist Cane’s Drastic Plan – Christel Khalil’s Change Sparks Smart Storyline
Cane (Daniel Goddard) is considering relocating on ‘The Young and the Restless’. While the twins want to remain emotionally close to their mother, the idea of physically moving near Lily (Christel Khalil) has sparked somewhat unexpected resistance.
Mattie (Lexie Stevenson) and Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) aren’t in favor of their dad’s plan, as their high school lives are based in Genoa City. They also see that Cane hasn’t yet been able to effectively deal with the cascading impact of their mom’s forced removal from the family.
Y&R continues to present a heart-breaking storyline that’s based on Khalil’s desire to move to a recurring contract. As a result Lily was written into jail, serving time behind bars for Hilary’s (Mishael Morgan) accidental death.
While the believability of Lily actually being remanded to prison created natural questions among viewers, the acting evidenced by Khalil, Goddard, Stevenson, Alexander Gerry, and Camryn Hamm (Shauna) has been solid. As the Ashby’s continue to grapple with this traumatic event, a well-written arc is being presented.
It makes sense that Mattie would have embraced logic when she initially learned that her mother would be behind bars. The intellectual twin began researching existing case law and staged a one-woman protest, complete with t-shirt and an arrest.
Charlie responded differently. He understood what his sister was doing, but didn’t follow suit. Instead, he’s clinging to Shauna as a means to cope.
Cane couldn’t handle seeing his wife in pain. At one point he stopped going to visit her at Walworth, but Nate (Brooks Darnell) and Neil (Kristoff St. John) got through to Mr. Ashby. While he’s since rebounded, Cane has now developed what is seen as an extreme response plan.

Would Lily want her family to leave Genoa City, even if they were just to rent an apartment near to the facility where she’s been transferred? Probably not. But by creating the next step in this story, Y&R appears to be demonstrating that Goddard, Stevenson, Alexander, and to a lesser extent, Hamm, will remain a regular part of the cast.
Khalil’s desire to spend more time with her family and explore other professional projects is laudable. Kudos to Y&R as well for developing a smart storyline that is exploring what happens to family’s that confront life-altering situations.
