Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers) will soon be seen again on The Young and the Restless, as readers of this comprehensive soap site know. So, how will the original ‘Red’ be written back into the show?
It would be highly unusual if Gina Tognoni’s (Phyllis) edition was seen on one episode and then Stafford appeared in the next with only a simple voiceover mention, “Michelle Stafford will now be playing Phyllis Summers.” No, the hire of a new actor in a regular recast would generate that commonly announced switch.
A recast this unexpected should be followed by something dramatic. Let’s consider Phyllis’ current circumstances and then predict.
How Will Y&R Switch Phyllis?
The Chief Executive Officer’s job at Jabot was just lost. Phyllis then went on the attack against Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), before also pouring her heart out to him. That was followed by Phyllis ill-fated blackmail attempt against her two-time ex-husband using nondescript photos of ‘Kola’.

The revived Phyllis won’t have forgotten recent incidents and keep Jabot in her crosshairs. Through that persistent passion will also come the opportunity for ‘Phack’s’ revival.
Jack was just duped by Kerry Johnson (Alice Hunter), leaving him alone. Phyllis was booted out of Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) life, which has Miss Summers’ living in a Genoa City Athletic Club suite. So, why not repair two people who can learn to love each other again?

And then there’s Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), who Phyllis is going after again. Romance isn’t her intent in this instance. Instead, she resents what he did with Summer and is trying to use that information to box-in Billy, just as he’s reestablished trust with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle).
Will Stafford’s return involve a remix of the audience splitting ‘Philly’? Of course, Phyllis might just string Billy along, never intending an actual reboot.
Lauren Fenmore-Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) was hoping Phyllis could help her severe business matters with Jabot. Since those efforts failed and these ladies have long been best friends, it would seem natural that Lauren and Phyllis will continue working together.
Might Y&R stir the friendship pot, but pitting Phyllis and Lauren against each other? Doing so would evoke the quintessential element within Stafford’s version of her great, legacy character.
Fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ rightfully express their opinions on a regular basis. So, how will Y&R write Michelle Stafford back into the show?
