The Young and the Restless News-- Neil Winters--(Kristoff St. John)

Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) unexpectedly passes away on The Young and the Restless. Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) finds him and then tells his sister, Lily Ashby (Christel Khalil), the heart-breaking news.

Y&R is presenting a series of episodes that focuses on the loss of one of its iconic characters, while also highlighting the life and career of the actor who portrayed Neil. This special event arc, shot within the last month-plus allowed the cast to express their grief, while also paying honor to their colleague and friend.

St. John died due to hypertrophic heart disease in early February. Neil will be said to have passed away from a medical crisis after having last been seen by his grandchildren, Mattie Ashby (Lexie Stevenson) and Charlie Ashby (Noah Alexander Gerry) at the penthouse.

Y&R Celebrates Kristoff St. John

The celebration of life service that follows Neil’s death will be attended by Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore, who reprises his role as Neil’s brother). That event will also be attended by others who knew Neil during his days in Genoa City, including Sofia Dupre (Julia Pace Mitchell), who is Moses Winters (Dax Randall) mother. Moses is Neil’s youngest son.

A special tribute episode, honoring St. John’s life, is set to be shown on April 29. Among the notable former cast members who will be offering their reflections is Victoria Rowell (Drucilla Winters).

Young And The Restless Alum Victoria Rowell To Appear

Longtime Y&R audience members recall the great era, that stretched from the early 1990s to the mid-2000s, when St. John and Rowell became one of the show’s all-time great couples. Together the fantastic actors forged their equal places in daytime entertainment history.

Devon and Lily’s sibling relationship was more than strained since last summer. It was broken because of a car accident that had Lily driving, with Hilary Curtis (Mishael Morgan) in the passenger seat and Charlie in the rear. Hilary was distracting Lily, who then ran a red light.

The passing of ‘Hevon’s’ unborn child and Hilary, who remarried Devon, a handful of days later, split James’ character from Khalil’s. Lily was later sent to prison but has since gained an early release.

It’s possible that Neil’s passing will help Devon and Lily to heal. Most importantly, Y&R’s special episodes honor a great actor and person, Kristoff St. John.
