Coronation Street’s Samia Longchambon To Play Maria Connor For Another Year
Samia Longchambon has signed a new contract extending her stay in “Coronation Street” for another year. She first joined the show back in 2000 and since then she’s been part of several major storylines including giving birth to a stillborn baby and going to prison for a sham marriage. It seems like big things are on the horizon for the actress as reports revealed that she will be part of some big storylines during her stay. So far, show bosses have hinted that Longchambon’s character, Maria Connor will be involved with Ali Neeson. This may only be a part of her many upcoming storylines.
Sources revealed that Iain McLeod has done all he can to make sure that Longchambon doesn’t leave the show. Viewers may recall that there has been a mass exodus of cast members in the past three months. Those who have left explained that some of the reasons that pushed them to exit the show included low pay, long hours, and toxic work environment.
“Samia has just signed a new deal to keep her on the cobbles until 2020. Bosses were determined not to lose another major cast member. Viewers will also be pleased to hear that Samia will be sticking around for the foreseeable future,” per the soap insider. Longchambon is the latest “Coronation Street” star who has signed a huge deal to stay in the soap. Last week, other of her fellow cast mates, Daniel Brocklebank, and Melanie Hill signed a new year-long contract as well.
So far, seven cast members of “Coronation Street” has decided to leave the show. Kim Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, exit the soap after playing her role for more than a decade. Her character wasn’t killed off and show bosses have insisted that Marsh is just on a break. Faye Brooks, who portrays Kate Connor, announced her decision to leave last April.
