According to Digital Spy, Tamzin Outhwaite is, once again, leaving her role as Mel Owen on “EastEnders.” The actress still has a few more weeks in the set as she films the final scenes for the explosive exit story of her character.
Nothing much is known about Mel’s departure but viewers already have an idea that her killer son, Hunter Owen (Charlie Winter), is set to return to the show this summer.
“We are extremely grateful to Tamzin for reviving the character of Mel Owen back in 2017, allowing EastEnders fans the chance to see one of Walford’s most popular characters take centre stage once more,” Executive Producer Jon Sen said.
He also praised Outhwaite for her “incredible talent” and “wonderful performance. We wish her the best of luck for the future.“
EastEnders Spoilers – Mel Owen’s Return Was Supposed To Be One Year
Outhwaite also opened up about her exit. “When John (Yorke) asked me to return to EastEnders back in 2017, I jumped at the chance to play Mel once more but it was only supposed to be for a year,” she said. “That year quickly passed and I agreed to stay on for another, but now the time feels right to once again pursue other challenges.”
Outhwaite said she’ll miss a lot of people on the show, but she’s also excited to take on new roles outside of Walford.
Hunter was last seen on screen back on April 12, when Mel visited him and offered her support. Viewers may recall that Hunter is currently in prison for shooting his father Ray Kelly (Sean Mahon), which led to his death, during the show’s intense New Year storyline.
EastEnders Spoilers – Vowed Revenges Against Jack Branning For His Role
Mel promised to visit him every week and that she’d be there for him all throughout. She also vowed to come up with a revenge plan against Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) for his role in her son’s current ordeal.
Given that, viewers may see more prison based scenes with his mom upon his return on the canvas. Or could he break out of prison and wreak havoc?
An “EastEnders” spokesperson said, “We can confirm Charlie is back filming with EastEnders for a short stint, which will air later this year.”

Showrunners are trying to keep things under wraps regarding the character’s return to the canvas. But eagle-eyed fans have spotted Winter, Hunter’s portrayer, shooting scenes, which are due to air later in the summer, at Elstree.
