Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) had no issues partnering with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But the bigger risk might be opening a second edition of Society so soon after the initial restaurant hybrid hot spot debuted.
Just because one location has been a hit doesn’t necessarily mean another, or others would be. Heading a successful stand-alone anything is an accomplishment that deserves kudos. But starting to expand the brand so soon after the baby business was born is questionable. Plus, there’s Phyllis.
It actually seems that Phyllis is not in league with the man who formerly called himself ‘Spider’, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). But, as Phyllis said, Adam owns Dark Horse. She works for him. Is there any doubt that Adam will stick his fingers into the pot at Society 2? Of course not, especially considering that Abby is a Newman sibling.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – The Grand Phoenix Will Soon Rise
Abby has been successful because she’s pursuing her vision. Yes, Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) is a monied partner, but he’s allowing her to run the show. With whatever personality clashes may arise with Phyllis, she likely won’t want to sabotage the spotlighted business at the new hotel that represents her first bold venture in the Genoa City, Wisconsin, real estate world.

Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) pitched the name of the hotel project that Phyllis is heading. She claimed that the influencer agent’s idea was already on her list of moniker choices. With that, the hotel gained its official tag. The reference to the mythological bird that regenerates itself applies to the Phyllis character, as she’s been reborn various times. Y&R’s writers also winked twice to the audience in recent weeks regarding this specific character.
An earlier fourth wall-like break, where the audience is directly addressed, involved Phyllis talking about the number of Phyllis’ that there have been. That currently referenced the recast, where Gina Tognoni (Phyllis) departed the cast and Summers returned. Sandra Nelson (Phyllis) also played the character for a brief period in the late 1990’s. Fans are seeing that Summers’ alter ego is more in line with the historical edition of this character, than Tognoni’s more vulnerable Phyllis. That’s likely going to be a problem for Abby to deal with at some point.
Young And The Restless Spoilers – Abby Newman Is Forging Her Own Brand
Despite the fact that Abby worked hard at Newman Enterprises, she was never able to earn the same type of respect that Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) has. Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) believes that his younger daughter doesn’t have the same type of business acumen that Vickie possesses. But it must be said that the ‘Moustache’ did offer public praise to Abby at Society during the Newman family dinner a few days ago, with medicinal side effects considered as part of that mix.
Forging her own brand these days is a far cry from when Abby portrayed the heiress (Emme Rylan) in the past. That’s a wink within this feature to devoted viewers who are aware that the Abby character has been a phoenix of its own.
Ordway’s Abby has really hit on something good with Society. Her instincts to build off the positive by opening a second GC location is hardly far-fetched, but does involve risk. She’s measuring her goal, but does understand questions that Phyllis and others may have. Proceeding regardless also evidences Abby’s maturity, whether or not Society 2 wins.
