Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Make History In A Very Special Way!
Say what you will about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but there’s no denying that they are definitely ahead of their times. As a matter of fact, there’s a new report that says the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are the first royal couple to have an all-female senior staff! This comes after they appointed a pro-EU former ambassador to be their new right-hand woman. Here’s what you need to know.
According to The Daily Mail, the three women who will now be working for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle include former ambassador Fiona Mcilwham as their private secretary, deputy secretary Heather Wong and head of communications Sarah Latham.
Mcilwham will begin her new position next month. It’s been noted that this isn’t the first time that she’s made history. Fiona Mcilwham was also the youngest person to be appointed as a British ambassador when she worked in Albania at the age of 35 back in 2009. She also worked as a senior adviser to the director general of EU enlargement.
The New A-Team
Of course, for a lot of royal observers this doesn’t come as a surprise at all, mostly because Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have long considered themselves to be feminists. In fact, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were the ones who chose their new team. And that’s not because they particularly wanted an all-female staff but mostly because the three ladies were simply the best fit for their respective jobs.
Heather Wong, meanwhile, previously worked in the Obama administration. She also worked as Prince Harry’s personal assistant but has also been seen by Meghan’s side, too. Sara Latham has also previously worked for the Clintons and as a special adviser to the late Tessa Jowell, who was the Labour Culture Secretary in the UK. Sources say that Sarah’s biggest challenge is getting Harry and Meghan to understand that the “men in grey suits” have their best interests, too.
So far Prince Harry and Meghan Markle themselves have not made any comments about the new appointments but it’s without a doubt that they can’t wait to get started to work!
