Viewers were devastated when news of Burton’s departure as Jason Morgan on “General Hospital” made rounds. GH Spoilers – The Reason Behind His Departure
He realized that he made the right decision but he was also aware that it made a lot of people upset. Looking back, he imagined himself as an actor who was no longer having fun doing the job he loves.
“The stories were pretty emotional all the time at that point, and I was just in this kind of funk, carrying all the stuff that we did and being so serious all the time,” he said.
He admitted that he didn’t recognize how much the job has affected his mental health. As an actor in a soap opera, he had to live his character every day and he can’t just shake off the stories his alter ego got involved in that easily. It didn’t work that way.
He clarified that he was in a good place, in terms of having a job, but as an ordinary person, he also had to deal with a lot of things including the passing of his father.
“I love the character and I love the job and the opportunity, but I needed a breather, for sure. I definitely needed the break to work on myself,” Burton said.
By leaving the show, Burton got the chance to “totally reset.” It was a life-changing decision and when he decided to come back, he already had a fresh perspective. He’s no longer beating himself up and he’s having so much fun at work.
