The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Sharon’s Test Results Are In – And It’s Not What She Expected
The Young and The Restless spoilers tease that Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) results are in from her PET scan, which will reveal if the chemotherapy for her breast cancer is working or not, in an upcoming episode of The Young and The Restless. The question is, will it be good news – or bad news?
The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Sharon Newman Likely Had A PET Scan
Sharon likely had a PET, or Positron Emissions Topography scan. PET scans detect areas of cancer by obtaining images of the body’s cells as they work. First, Sharon would have been injected with a substance made up of sugar and a small amount of radioactive material. Cancer cells tend to be more active than normal cells, and they absorb more of the radioactive sugar as a result.
A special camera then scans the body to pick up any “highlighted” areas on a computer screen. This helps radiologists identify areas where cells are suspiciously active, which can indicate cancer. Once doctors know where to look, further evaluation can be done with other techniques. One example is a combined PET and CT Scan (known as PET/CT), which she may also be scheduled for after the PET scan results for more information. Sharon wants to go to the meeting with the doctors by herself, and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) and Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) are taken aback by her insistence to go by herself. Sharon is afraid that it could be bad news, and if it is, she wants to feel free to react however she reacts, without trying to hold herself back for the sake of her loved ones. This is much different for both herself and her loved ones and friends than it had been previously, where everyone had kept up hope that the chemotherapy would reduce the tumor to a small size where removal would be minimally invasive, and a single or possibly double mastectomy would not be necessary.

Y&R Spoilers: Sharon Newman Has Kept Her Feelings Of Fear And Panic Inside
Sharon has kept her feelings of fear and panic to herself, and pushed them down inside, without even telling her closest friends or family about them. She has felt like she has had to be the strong one even as her Team Sharon has been strong for her. She especially doesn’t want to frighten her teenage daughter, Faith Newman (Alivia Alyn Lind) any more than she has been – she had become very frightened of losing her mother to death from the breast cancer the night that she, Sharon, and Mariah were housebound due to the ice storm, and Sharon had become weak and stumbled while coming down the stairs.
Luckily, the two were there close by so they could keep her from falling and helped her to the couch, where they all snuggled up together under blankets. Viewers of The Young and The Restless should recall that sweet scene of family togetherness and support, which is so vitally important for a person facing a devastating and potentially fatal disease such as cancer. Every person needs a strong support system, whether facing an illness or not, but it is especially important for those facing crises. Sharon doesn’t want her support system to be there for the visit about her scan results, because she doesn’t want to see them fall apart if she does!
