General Hospital (GH) spoilers suggest that Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) just might be a bit smothered by his mother’s attentions. That’s because GH fans know that Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) is just as manipulative and scheming as Michael’s ex, Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier). Now some are asking, shouldn’t Carly just let Michael stand on his own two feet and be a man?

General Hospital Spoilers – Carly Loves Michael Too Much

Plenty of GH fans may have had a parent tell them what to do, even when they were adults themselves. That’s just the nature of parenting. GH viewers might agree that one’s child will always be one’s child … no matter what their age happens to be. With that said, Carly Corinthos rather puts the lie to the idea that all parental bossing is the same. How many GH fans can argue that over the course of Michael’s life, Carly has allowed her son the emotional room to grow, develop, and be responsible for his own life and actions? Not many.

Now, some GH viewers might argue that Michael is an adult, he’s been able to express his own thoughts, opinions, emotions … and he’s worked for his own career.
But, is that true?

General Hospital Spoilers – Michael Has Everything Handed To Him

First, one has to ask how many people in New York, let alone the United States of America, are the CEO of a major, international corporation like ELQ at Michael’s age. Isn’t Michael supposed to be only 27 years old? Out of Fortune 500 companies in America, the youngest CEO was Theodore Mathas at the age of 41. The average age of CEO’s across all industries in America is 59 years old. Does any GH fan believe that Michael Corinthos earned his position at ELQ?

The answer is that it’s not very bloody likely.

Even if Michael had the right schooling, if he were anyone else’s son he would be starting off at ELQ in the mail room like TV’s other high powered character, Harvey Specter over on “Suits.” Most GH fans would agree on that. The fact that Michael is where he is today is likely because Carly Corinthos tailored and manufactured every aspect of her son’s life path … from where Michael went to the university to being given the reigns of ELQ.

General Hospital Spoilers – Carly Fights Michael’s Battles for Him

One would think that a badass corporate executive like Michael might know how to negotiate, throw down, and fight dirty when the need calls for it. Instead, Michael let’s mommy do the fighting for him. Oh sure, GH fans have seen Michael supposedly make decisions for himself, but Michael knows what Carly’s doing. And, if he doesn’t, it’s because Michael doesn’t want to. Michael looks the other way because he knows Carly will go to extremes to fight for him. Not knowing what Carly is up to just gives Michael plausible deniability.

From Carly forging Nelle Benson’s (Chloe Lanier) signature on Wiley Cooper-Jones’s (Erik and Theo Olson) parental permission paper for elective heart surgery, to locking Nelle on the roof of General Hospital and leaving her to freeze to death, to urging Michael’s girlfriend, Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) to manipulate Michael for his own good… Carly has proven just how controlling a mother she can be.

The bottom line is that many GH fans believe that it’s time for Michael to grow a spine, get out from under Carly’s overprotective “mother hen” wings, and earn his place as part of the “royalty” in Port Charles.

Michael’s character needs to mature. He is stuck in his teen years even though he is now a grown man. Carly has much too much to say about his life. Even if Michael/Carly’s relationship has to take a hit, Michael definitely needs to stand up for himself to make decisions regarding his life. It’s okay to have parental support as one goes through life, but almost complete parental control is just not allowing Michael to become a man. Everything has been given to him all of his life, He has never achieved anything on his own and coming from money doesn’t mean one can’t be aggressive and forge a good life, even if the family fortune helps you to achieve success.. I like the Michael character but I definitely don’t care for the way he is portrayed.

Michael needs to prove himself. Until the does, everyone’s criticism of him will continue.
