Royal Family News: Princess Beatrice Broke The Wedding Mold Twice When She Married A Year Ago
British royal family news divulges that Princess Beatrice made history in more ways than one when she took her wedding vows last summer. It was a much different ceremony than originally planned due to COVID. But what she wore also got the lion’s share of attention.
Princess Beatrice was the first and only UK royal to say be married during the coronavirus pandemic. The daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor in July 2020.
Royal Family News – Princess Beatrice Made History
Beatrice wed her husband while wearing a hand me down dress. But this was not just any old vintage dress, it was one originally worn by her grandmother Queen Elizabeth. This made her the first royal bride to use a second-hand wedding gown.
The dress is a Norman Hartnell gown and it is a stunning shade of off-white. The embellished dress underwent some adjustments here and there, including the addition of organza sleeves. In the end the borrowed frock was the perfect touch for what turned out to be a below the radar royal wedding.
The late Princess Diana’s wedding dress designer, David Emanuel, thinks that Beatrice could start a trend with her dress choice. He and his now ex-wife Elizabeth Emanuel designed Diana’s frothy wedding gown and he stated that Beatrice’s second-hand choice could inspire brides to making their wedding gown “something borrowed.”

He added, “She is very privileged of Her Majesty the Queen to give her the gown. It just had a little puff sleeve, a panel at the bottom to update it. It was very clever and it should inspire a lot of brides.”
He suggested, “Ask your relatives if they have a wedding dress that you can update without breaking the bank, or have a look in charity shops for a vintage piece.”

The gorgeous gown was paired with the amazing Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, the same one that Queen Elizabeth wore for her nuptials to Prince Philip in 1947.
Diana’s designer also sees Beatrice’s small ceremony influencing brides to have an intimate versus a huge wedding. “If you take away the biggest budget, which is the reception, you can spend on what really matters,” he said.
