Gwen knew that Xander had strong feelings for Sarah. Gwen has hoped that she could get Xander to forget his feelings for Sarah and want to be with her. Xander had gotten into trouble because he helped Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) kidnap Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk) to get revenge on Susan’s son EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). Xander had ended up taking Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans) hostage. Xander was able to set Susan and Bonnie free.
Sarah suspected that he had kidnapped Susan and Bonnie. Xander had been desperate to keep Sarah from finding out the truth and turned to Gwen for help. Gwen tried to help Xander but Sarah was able to get proof that Xander had kidnapped Bonnie and Susan. Sarah decided that she would get a divorce Xander. Gwen was surprised that Xander wanted to be with her again. Gwen had thought that she could have a future with Xander but he still wants to find a way to get Sarah back.

Gwen had been upset that Xander wanted to be with Sarah again. Gwen had an encounter with Alex. Gwen had been drinking and Alex joined her. Gwen found that Alex had been upset that his relationship with Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) had ended badly. Alex had tried to find comfort from Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) but he ended up coming between Allie and her girlfriend Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens). Alex had been having trouble with his working situation at his family’s company Titan.
Alex had hoped to take over running Titan but his uncle Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) wanted his wife Maggie Horton Kiriakis (Suzanne Rogers) to be the new CEO. Alex had wanted to forget his troubles. Alex and Gwen had started to drown their sorrows and end up having a one night stand. Gwen and Alex have been surprised that they liked the time that they spent together. Gwen may decide that she wants to get to know Alex.
