The Young And The Restless: Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) pushed Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) too far. Eventually, Phyllis gave in to Jeremy Stark’s (James Hyde) repeated requests that they team up. That alliance became the spotlight drama of the bicentennial celebration.

Viewers were privy to scenes that connected Y&R characters were not. That, along with teasers, indicates that Phyllis is not dead. She and Jeremy are orchestrating a revenge hoax targeting their mutual nemesis, Diane.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Phyllis Summers And Diane Jenkins’ Backstory

Longtime viewers, who are the targets of the many character reprisals and retrospective-themed bicentennial celebration of Genoa City, Wisconsin, can ask a reasonable question at this point in the storyline. So, let us pause the screen for some side analysis.

Stafford is one of Y&R’s legacy cast members. She turned and intended three-week role into a career through sheer force of will.

Walters (2001 through 2010 and returning in 2022) is one of three actors to play Diane. The other actors were the original Diane, Alex Donnelley (1982 through 2001), and Maura West (2010 and 2011). Diane is a good character but not a lead.

Phyllis and Diane have a longstanding rivalry based on Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

Y&R Spoilers – Victor Newman And Jack Abbott’s History Considered

The Jack character was originally played by the late Terry Lester (1980 through 1989). Bergman assumed the role in 1989.

Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) runs GC. Victor is Jack’s nemesis. Both are legacy characters and male leads. But who would a majority of fans say is the king of Y&R, Victor or Jack?

Jack’s revived romance with Diane represents quite the turnaround tale since last year, when Phyllis stood by his side in Los Angeles, California. Viewers can see Jack and Diane’s reconciliation was forced. The conflict that is now unfolding was the goal.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – What About Nikki Newman, Jill Abbott and Paul Williams?

There is no question that Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) is the lead female character on the show. Thomas Scott was not the original Nikki. Erica Hope (1978 and 1979) was the first actor to play this role, with Thomas Scott taking over in 1979.

Nikki has been part of Y&R longer than Victor and Jack. So, it was nice to have her head the bicentennial celebration, along with Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland, the only actor to have played this role since debuting in 1982).

However, should a spotlighted fiftieth-anniversary storyline be centered on Phyllis and Diane’s rivalry? And, Hyde’s character, who debuted last fall, is a major part of the mix?

It is easy to second-guess anything. This subjective take is nothing more than that. But a storyline involving Nikki, Victor, and Jack would have been more appropriate.

The Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) character has been part of Y&R since its debut year, 1973. Brenda Dickson initiated the role. Bond Gideon and Deborah Adair followed until Walton assumed the role in 1987. It was nice that she was back. But she should also have been a major part of this storyline.

Finally, not having Doug Davidson (the original Paul Williams since 1978) be physically part of the festivities represented an unexplainable hole on Y&R.

No. The story of Phyllis faking her death and causing her family so much misery should not have blighted the 50th anniversary celebration.
