Summer feels safe going to the daytime meeting, in Chancellor Park, responding to someone with information on her mother’s murder-she’s shocked when she sees her mother alive!

Phyllis is in a dire situation, having lost all her money and killed Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) in self-defense. He’d conned her into faking her death and framing Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) , her longtime rival, for her murder. Stark took all her money and changed her identity, then decided he wanted their “marriage” to be real when Phyllis wanted to renege, and came after her with scissors.

Now Phyllis is in hiding and afraid, but she doesn’t want her daughter who went through so much trouble to set up her memorial to grieve. She calls her into a bunch of thick bushes and trees, well-hidden, and Summer has the shock of her life.

Summer is shocked, but overjoyed, and wants to tell Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) their mother’s alive right away, but Phyllis says it has to be their secret. She then explains how she got in way over her head with Stark, and while the marriage certificate was real, the marriage wasn’t, and what happened in the motel room. Phyllis is afraid of being charged with Stark’s murder when she killed him in self-defense, and Summer can now understand the need for secrecy. She notes Daniel was tempted to kill Stark himself right there in the memorial service-Phyllis says she knows, she was there in disguise but couldn’t reveal herself.

The Young And The Restless Spoilers – Lying Is Okay When It Protects

Summer and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) have been going through a rough patch over Diane’s being arrested for Phyllis’ murder, and Summer’s been full of pain and revenge. But she agrees with her mom that everything is just their secret, until they can figure out what to do next to protect Phyllis. Summer hates lying but acknowledges it’s okay when it protects, and her mom needs protection until who knows when.

Summer has been trying to push Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) to prove Diane’s responsible for Phyllis’ death, but her loyalty to her mother outweighs anything else. Eventually everything can be revealed, but Phyllis doesn’t know when that time will be.
