Xander may tell Chloe that he did not want Susan to get hurt. Xander had been having financial difficulties. Xander had been married to Dr. Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey). Xander had wanted to be able to provide for Sarah. Xander had thought that he would be able to help Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) with her plan to get money from EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). Ava wanted Xander to kidnap Susan because she believed that EJ would pay a large amount of money to get his mother back. Xander was aware that Ava wanted to get revenge on EJ. Ava had wanted to get back at EJ because he had found out that she had lied about being his brother Jake DiMera’s (Brandon Barash) widow. Xander had been reluctant to kidnap Susan but he believed that Ava would get the money from EJ and let Susan go.
Xander had not anticipated that he would need to kidnap Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans) because she had found Susan. Xander had been able to let Bonnie go because Ava was going to get the money from EJ. Xander had brought Susan to Ava because she was going to take Susan to EJ. Xander had been shocked that Ava had wanted him to kill Susan. Xander decided that he could not kill Susan and let her go. Xander did not know that Ava would get revenge on EJ by killing Susan.

Xander may inform Chloe that he had wanted to keep Sarah from finding out that he had kidnapped Susan for Ava. Xander could not keep Sarah from find out that he had kidnapped Susan. Sarah decided that she wanted to divorce Xander and leave town. Xander had wanted to move on with Gwen.
Xander found out that Gwen was having trouble with her relationship with her father Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford). Gwen knew that Jack had wanted her to turn on Xander because Xander had kidnapped Susan. Jack believed that Xander needed to be brought to justice. Gwen has become estranged from Jack because Gwen refused to turn her back on Xander. Gwen had hoped that Xander would want to be with her but he could not forget his feelings for Sarah. Xander has felt badly that he has hurt Sarah and Gwen.
