CBS’ popular action drama series S.W.A.T. has been canceled by the network after six seasons. The show is based on the original series of the same name that aired in 1975 and was created by Robert Hamner. The reboot series premiered on C.B.S. on November 2017, after which it was renewed for Season 6, which aired on October 2022. However, the network recently revealed that the show had been axed, and the finale episode will air on May 19, 2023, bringing an end to the glorious story that lasted six seasons. So, why did C.B.S. cancel the show? Keep reading to find out the details!

S.W.A.T. centers on Daniel Hondo Harrelson, a sergeant at the L.A. Police Department who is a lifelong Los Angeles local as well as a former Marine. Hondo is now in charge of the latest Special Weapons And Tactics unit at the L.A.P.D. Given that he is L.A. born and raised as well as from a black heritage, he has deep loyalty towards his brothers in blue as well as the folks they serve.

Apart from Shemar Moore as Hondo, the series also features Rochelle Aytes, Kenny Johnson, Jay Harrington, Alex Russell, and David Lim.

In a statement, Amy Reisenbach, president of C.B.S. Entertainment, confirmed the cancelation of the show. She explained how the show makers brought fans some action-packed and compelling episodes that were also aimed towards addressing crucial social issues while contributing to CBS’ prime-time lineup.

However, the news of S.W.A.T.’s cancellation was a big surprise as well as a downer for fans who absolutely loved the show. Moreover, ever since Season 5 aired on C.B.S., the show saw a good spike in terms of viewership. However, as per reports, the decision for cancelation of the show might involve much more than just the ratings.

S.W.A.T. is currently airing its final season, which at the moment has an average of 6.8 million viewers alongside a 0.7 rating among adults aged between 18 and 49. These numbers are confirmed as per data shared by the Nielsen website from late April. The finale episode, which is titled Legacy, will showcase the team working in sync with the DEA as well as Mack Boyle, played by Timothy Hutton. Together, they attempt to stop a ruthless cartel boss that has been waging war on the LA streets.

So, what do you think of the cancelation of S.W.A.T.? Do you think it should have been renewed for Season 7? Share your thoughts in the comments!
