Phyllis’ initial instinct was right. Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) was a dangerous criminal who she did not want to be connected to.
However, Jeremy recognized that Phyllis loathed Diane as much or more than he did. So, she was a natural target.
Jeremy eventually stood as what Phyllis believed was her only option. But agreeing to work with him to frame Diane for a faked murder nearly led to Phyllis’ death and created her current legal plight.
Y&R Spoilers – Jack Abbott Switched Sides
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) was backed by Phyllis when Diane announced her return from the dead in Los Angeles, California. That point in the plot proved to be Phyllis’ high mark with Jack.
Diane’s decision to move back to Genoa City, California, without anyone’s invitation was decisive. She was compelled to make Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Jack hear her faked murder story.
Kyle’s embrace of his mother, soon after she began pursuing reconciliation with him, deeply impacted Jack. At the same time, Bergman’s character found Phyllis’ repeated attempts to undermine Diane unnerving and pushed him to reject Red. That added to her mental anguish and sense of doom.

Diane was resigned to believing she would spend the rest of her life in jail. While the securing of Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) as her attorney led to preferred house arrest, she continued to believe that proving her innocence was an uphill battle.

News of Phyllis’ hoax gives Diane all the motivation she needs to reverse her soapy fortunes. Walters’ character will seek to clear her name and bring Phyllis to justice.
Whether all wrongs will be pinned on Jeremy remains in doubt because various people who are learning what Phyllis did are not her allies. Jack still loves her. But does he love her more than Diane?
Also, it is plausible to believe Phyllis can escape a long jail sentence by claiming all that happened was Jeremy’s fault on Y&R.
